As newly promoted champions of division seven South West Shefford and Sandy Men's Twos carried on where they left off last season with a resounding victory away over fellow promoted side Berkhamstead Threes.
Despite a couple of summer departures, the core of last seasons all conquering side is still there and is now joined by youngsters Elliot Jones and Man of the Match Joe Holder. The two youngsters helped Shefford settle quickly and shake off the summer rust.
An instinctive early strike from last season's top scorer Steve Ashdown and a great goal on the break by Steve Brookes saw the away side go in two up at half time. After the interval the flood gates opened with the excellent goals from Tom Pateman and Elliot Jones, with Ashdown and Brookes adding another one each.
The only blot on the copybook was that Berkhampstead managed to score a consolidation goal past the otherwise excellent Dom Wright. It was an unfortunate goal to concede and literally the last touch of the match as it was scored during injury time from a short corner.
All in all it was a fantastic first victory of the season and while sterner tests lie ahead, it sets the season up for the Men's 2s.
