Survived the big freeze

The Men's 2s game was the only one to survive the freeze from the men's section. They found themselves up against second placed Potters Bar, so knew they would be in for a tough game.

With a handful of third team players added to the young 2s squad, they found themselves up against an exceptionally strong Potters Bar team. Not that you'd have thought this was the case after five minutes, as the Men's 2s lead 1-0 following an exceptional narrow angled finish from Robbie Stevens, that had no right to find the backboard. The rest of the half was dominated by Potters Bar though, as they put together the better passing moves and gave S & S little time to dwell on the ball. It was no surprise therefore that in the last five minutes Potters Bar struck twice to go into the break 2 nil to the good.

The second half continued to see heavy pressure from Potters Bar, but this time they had less to show as the defense lead by skipper Dan Robins was particularly robust at repelling the Potters Bar boarders. In addition keeper Dom Wright was in exceptional form pulling off a series of cracking saves. As the half wore on S & S started to become more of an attacking force & James Morris came closest to leveling with a shot just over the bar. With less than five minutes to go & with the team down to 10 after an injudicious tackle in the S & S D. S & S took the direct Wimbledon route with the long ball finding an on running Danny Price, his shot was well saved by the Potters Keeper, but fell to Stevens who repeated his feat of earlier in the game with a steamrollering effort, again from the narrowest of angles to snatch a point.

A hard fought point for the Men's 2s, with the 3s players stepping up all contributing well & a confidence boost for the side for the rest of the campaign. The Men's 2s will surely not play any other teams with the playing strength of the side the Potters put out for this game.
