Return fixture sees a much better result

Ladies 3s made the arduous journey all the way to Letchworth for the first of the season’s return fixtures (the first meeting going to Letchworth 5-2). With a bare 11 eleven, it was crucial everyone turned up. Rayner and Hall were delayed as they did their good deed for the day, helping a damsel in distress after a RTA on the A1. The first half saw few chances for either side. S&S struggled to get shots on target as they were inhibited by the low lying sun. It was Letchworth who had no such problems at the other end, who took the lead with a shot on goal that keeper Wood couldn’t reach. Letchworth tried again and a tussle just inside the D resulted in Jones crumpling to the floor after a elbow in the side of the face. Ouchy number 1. Jones bravely soldiered on. A break by S&S down the left wing and Alexander looked to receive the ball, but was prevented and left prostrate on the floor by what could only be called a ‘clout’ on the cheekbone by a Letchworth stick. Ouchy number 2! The second half started with S&S winning more tackles. Luetchford made penetrating runs through the midfield. S&S pressed high and hard. A deflection in the D and the ball swerved through a melee of players. Don’t panic, Rayner’s earlier good deed for the day was about to pay off, as the ball reached her standing all on her tod and she calmly blasted the ball past the keeper.
