A rare morning adventure for the Men’s 4s with a trip to Berko to begin the weekend. Danny Hall was selfishly unavailable having become a Father for the second time this week so it was potentially looking like a hard day at the office. The first shock of the day went to Lewis Barden as the lack of a lock on the toilet cubicle door saw him have the unfortunate pleasure of observing the Skippers slender bottom ‘mid wipe’ !
The game started positively with Shefford having the early possession and launching a wave of attacks which Berko’s defence did well to keep at bay. S&S were rewarded though as Ben Stone slotted home with a tidy finish to put the visitors ahead. Maxted added a second within ten minutes before Shefford had 15 minutes of madness with Berko switching formation and causing the Shefford defence all sorts of problems. A series of rushed/fluffed clearances led to a strike finding the backboard as Dom Wright didn’t close his legs in time! The half ending 2-1 to Shefford with all still very much to play for.
Waff’s words of wisdom at halftime worked wonders with Shefford starting the second half calmly and a simple passing move led to Stone playing a weight perfect pass to Maxted to restore the two goal advantage. Berko continued to press and were unlucky not to pull one back as a fine stop by Dom kept the Shefford lads on top. Gully continued to roll back the years at left back and was unlucky not to add a forth as he ventured forward. In the end a rather scrappy but dogged win to continue the 4s fine start to 2019.
Another pleasing overall team performance from both young and old, thanks to Dom for helping us out and the army of parents who continue to drive, provide lifts and generally help us to get a team out each week.
