The final encounter of 2018 for the men’s 4s , an interesting morning saw the team drop from 14 players to 10 and then back up to 12.
The team eventually took to the field with guest star Jamie Bellingham in goal! West Herts (currently top of the league) had been scoring goals for fun the previous few weeks so when Ed Murray-Clark put one into the back of the net after 10 minutes they were a little surprised. Coverdale playing in an attacking role made some promising runs down the left flank at times like a young Bilbo Baggins off to the shire! Maxted and Paul Barden did their best to run the midfield although the team clearly missed the presence of Darran France who was busy defeating Octopussy or that bloke with the third nipple.
West Herts though back into the game with an absolute belter of a strike in off the crossbar! Minutes later they grabbed a second with the ball somehow finding its way through the Shefford defence.
The half time team talk was slightly distracted by the introduction of a box of celebrations and the concern about who got the malteaser and the galaxy caramel....plenty of bountys left though.
The second half saw West Herts unable to add any further goals mainly down to a string of fine saves from Bellingham and some solid work from Hall, Richards and Giddings.
Gully and Trev both finding lots of space up front but sadly some wayward passing left them stranded. The Shefford boys kept pushing forward and were more than deserving of an equaliser but sadly it was not to be. A 2-1 defeat to end the season but again a host of positives to reflect on over the Xmas break as we all put on 3 stone and forget which day of the week it is.
Thank you as ever to Pete and Gina Kelly for umpiring ??
