7 goals tucked away nicely

In what can only be described as ‘bloody cold’ the men’s 4s took on Luton in the late game at Sandy.

The opposition last put 5 passed the Shefford defence at the end of last season and started the game attacking from the off , almost creeping around the Shefford defence with their very first attack. The following ten minutes was very similar with Luton camped just outside the Shefford D and unlucky not to take the lead in more than one occasion.

Then 2 breaks within 2 minutes led to 2 Shefford goals with the returning Steven Ashdown banging one in from close range and debutant Dan Rowland following up seconds later. Shefford then in dream land as Grant Maxted blasted a 3rd home from the top of the D just minutes later.

Luton pushed on and again were unlucky not to get on the scoreboard. Ashdown added his second and the teams 4th just before half time.

The halftime team talk saw Gully highlighting the fact that managing subs is actually really really hard especially when a third of the team is called Dan.

The second half began and Luton struck back with a well worked goal, at this point the rain began to fall ...lots of it (Captain Pugwash and Roger the cabin boy would have happily sailed across the Astro at one point).

Shefford weathered the storm both on and off the pitch. Dan Rowland’s second goal coming before Ashdown completed a ‘cheeky’ hat trick with a ‘top bins’ ‘lift’ from a short corner or a lucky loopy shot depending on who you ask.

The game ending with Kev Orchard grabbing a 7th for the 4s with a cracking finish from a very tight angle.

Solid performances again from Ben Stone and Sam Giddings and Paul Barden also putting in a solid shift. Pizza and cookies for tea was a winner as was shelter and warmth following the battering from the elements.
