Illness at the heart of the mens loss
home at fortress Sandy
Illness struck the heart of the Men’s 4s with Alistair Wood missing a whole week of school so obviously unavailable , Gully turned up and offered to play despite looking like an extra for the Adams family and Dan Coverdale only leaving his bed about an hour before the 4pm push back.
In summary Southgate were top of the league and unbeaten and turned up with a good mix of youth and experience. The visitors took an early lead as their centre forward ghosted into space and put one away from the top of the D.
The visitors made it 2-0 following a short corner, however their afternoon was far from easy with Maxted twice calling their keeper into action and Elliot Wood causing several problems on the left flank.
The second half saw a positive response from the Sandy boys and the father and son Barden duo both testing the opposition defence. Southgate added a third before a debut goal from Ben Stone in only his second adult game. Other assorted highlights saw Robbie Richmond forgetting which side of the stick to use .....on three occasions, Darran France spinning round on his back in the Shefford goal mouth and ZZach Christodouloudoing a stonking Zoro impression with a one handed jab tackle.
A defeat at the end of the day but a really positive team performance against this season league champions elect.
