The Mens 4s made the short trip to Letchworth for a rather chilly 5pm pushback. After ensuring all S&S players had red away shirts it was nice to see that Letchworth had decided to play in green.
Letchworth currently third in the table having already scored 30 goals this season stood in the way of a buoyant 4th XI who boasted a squad of 14 with half the side still in their teenage years.
S&S battled well and more than matched the opposition in the first half, James Steer pulling out a full length dive and a couple of other handy saves when called upon. The S&S defence also keeping out 5 short corners during some prolonged Letchworth pressure. The first half ending 0-0.
The second half started with Shefford under the cosh , not helped by a series of mistimed tackles and lack of marking. However the lads battled back with Paul Barden and Darran France pulling the midfield strings and Elliot Wood storming down the left wing on more than one occasion. Sadly though Letchworth managed to break through the Sandy back line and managed to scramble the ball passed the keeper.
A great last 15 minutes saw Neil Blanin push one fractionally wide of the Letchworth goal and most of the action in and around the opposition goal. Toby Morlidge somehow conceding a free hit despite taking a stick to the face and chipping a tooth (gumshields adverts have already been sent via the 4s whatsapp group) but soldiered on for the final 2 minutes.
A great team effort and a game we really could have drawn and probably won on another day. The aftermatch team chat focused on how old Gully actually is, Zach Christodoulou refusing to eat his peas and Alistair Wood adamant that his hair is naturally presented and does not use his mum's rollers to generate his curls.
Roll on next weekend, we go again!
