Ladies 3 promoted to Divison 2
By Jo Hare
after a 1-1 draw - leaves there fate to other results
The pressure was on S&S Ladies 3s. A win from their final game of the season and they were promoted. Anything else and other results would determine their fate. Their opponents were Hertford 3s, needing to win to avoid relegation. The heat contributed to sluggish play from both teams.
S&S were awarded a lots of short corners, but were unable to convert any of them. The second half began goalless. S&S upped the pressure on the Hertford defence and a feisty Grace Gravell’s tussle with the goalkeeper produced a timid clearance by the goalkeeper which was pounced on by Hannah Woodhouse who pushed the ball over the goal line! Hertford hit back and a scramble in the D resulted in their equaliser. S&S were awarded more short corners but wasted them all (the pressure taking it’s toll). S&S were gutted when the final whistle was blown. The final score 1-1. It was now all up to one particular result going in S&S’ favour. After an agonising 2 hours and 46 minutes (exactly) wait! The crucial result eventually came in and praise the lord, it meant S&S are promoted to League Division 2!! A fitting end to a season for a hard working team. The commitment and passion from every player who has played for the 3s has rewarded them with promotion. Thank you to all the supporters and coaches this season and all the fabulous players. But a BIG thank you to the awesome, steadfast Captain Wendy Shepherd! We couldn’t have done it without you!
