to take very convincing win

S&S Ladies 3s played host to St Albans 5s. With a point to prove, S&S pounced on the opposition from the off. S&S were soon awarded their first short corner. Time to put practiced routines into action. Katie Jeffries pushed out to Scarlett Howman for her to drag and flick the ball off the inside of the post and past the keeper. With St Albans still stunned at going behind so early, Scarlett Howman again flicked the ball into the net to score hers and her team’s second goal. With the bit between their teeth, S&S pressed hard and were rewarded with a third goal from Katie Jeffries forcing her way into the D to strike the ball into the back of the net. Starting the second half 3-0 up, S&S were not about to be complacent with their lead. The defence of Justine Jones, Sharon Wood, Caitlin Bradshaw and Jo Hare stood strong, leaving keeper Casey Elsby with little to do (except watch her team mates dominate the opposition). The midfield team of Freya Bradshaw, Corin Lancaster, Chrissie Harris, Wendy Shepherd Roberts confidently distributed the ball, frustrating St Albans. Denise Alexander, Hannah Woodhouse, Grace Gravell on the forward line linked up well. Hannah Woodhouse rounded up the S&S scoring with her shot carefully lifted enough to soar over the keeper’s outstretched leg. With the clock counting down to the last seconds of the game, St Albans were awarded a short corner. After breaking the line too early Caitlyn Bradshaw was sent back to the half way line and the S&S defence were down from 5 to 4 players. The short corner was taken again! Justine Jones broke the line too early - sent back to the half way line. The depleted S&S defence of 3 faced the whole of the St Albans team (bar their keeper) lined up around the D! The short corner was taken for the third time! The initial shot was blocked and cleared out of the D. The final whistle was blown and three points were Shefford & Sandy’s!

Final score Shefford & Sandy 4, St Albans 0.
