Shefford travelled through Artic conditions to face Leighton Buzzard in a bottom of the table clash. The match was a must win game for both teams if they wanted to maintain Div 1 status. The luck of the Irish was definitely with Shefford as Fury and Lambourne a mixture of experience and youth, combined to give Shefford the lead. Leighton come close but Fuller as ever made some super saves despite her vision being obscured by the blizzard like conditions. At times the hockey lacked creativity and wasn’t pretty but Shefford battled on regardless. The dynamic duo of Lambourne, and Harling working tirelessly in the centre, supporting the sprightly forward line of Wilson, Rayner, Fury and Green. Whilst the in-form Fogg and her defensive quartet of Chiswell, Hall, Burke and the young Alford managed to keep any Leighton attack at bay.

The Polar conditions and frost-bittern-hands hampered the match but in the end Shefford’s fitness, organisation in defence and power in attack shone through.
