1-1 draw against local rivals Letchworth
By Jo Hare
ends in relegation from Division 1
Ladies 2s 1 V Letchworth 2s 1
Shefford hosted local rivals Letchworth in their final league game of the season. The sun was shining and apart from missing a couple of regulars everything was looking good. Shefford started at a steady pace, testing the Letchworth defence with some sneaky lead runs from Green and Wilson. The defence weathered a few attacks from Letchworth’s sprightly forward line and Fuller made a couple of great saves as usual. The deadlock was broken when Shefford won a corner, Green deflected Nunn’s strike into goal to give Shefford the lead. The team gained in confidence and pinged the ball nicely around the pitch. The experienced trio of Harling, Bartram and Ashby all put in a good shift containing the youthful Letchworth midfield. However, Letchworth finally levelled the score despite Fuller’s salmon like dive the ball flew into the goal. It’s almost certain this was Shefford’s last game in Division one after battling relegation for most of the season. I’d just like to say that winning is great, but in life the secret is learning how to lose, which we have got pretty good at. If we can pick ourselves up after this seasons disappointment, then I’m sure we can comeback as champions someday!
