The Men's 1s travelled to Norwich with a handful of regulars missing, but handing a first team debut to youngster Paul Angell, who has made fantastic progress this year after starting the season in the 4s.
S & S had the better of the early exchanges & took the lead with a well worked penalty corner that was finished by Chris Fell. Norwich City responded well though & they scored two goals in quick succession as they gained the ascendancy. Two then became three as S & S failed to clear their lines. S & S though pulled one back just before half time Alyn Meredith turning on the stick skills & finishing well.
The first part of the second half was fairly even, with both sides creating opportunities, but as the half progressed S & S started to dominate, Liam Stevens was particularly unlucky to find his deflection saved by a well positioned City keeper. Just as it looked like S & S were going to get nothing from what was becoming an increasingly frenetic game & with the Umpires reaching for their cards, Fell drifted at pace across the top of the Norwich D & then unleashed a superlative reverse stick finish to equalise.
The last few minutes were frantic as S & S reduced to 10 men had to survive a last minute Penalty Corner to secure their point. A draw was probably a fair reflection on the game, but S & S did have the chances in the second half to secure all three points. Next week S & S welcome fellow promotion challengers East London 1s.
