Marching onwards

S & S started the game well, with Stortford struggling to get out of their half. The S & S midfield dominating allowing the pacy attack to run hard at the Stortford defence. Despite this first blood was the Bishop's who won a Penalty corner, one slick routine later and they were one nil up. S & S though continued to dominate & justifiably got back on level terms, Tom Pateman's saved shot fell to Stuart Robson who coolly lifted it into the net. Just before half time the Bishop's collected a second again from a Penalty corner to go into half time 2-1 up.

The first 15 minutes of the second half followed a similar script to the first in terms of the possession and endeavor mostly being with S & S. S & S got back on level terms, an inspired aerial over the top of the Bishop's defence by Chris Fell, fell at the feet of Elliot Jones, he was crudely brought down and Fell dispatched the resultant Penalty stroke.

The S & S fourth goal was a team "piece de resistance". Doug Dawson picking the ball out on the right threaded the ball to Alyn Meredith, his ball in was deliberately left by the on running Lewis Bridger, leaving an unmarked Jones completely free to finish with an unstoppable first time sweep into the roof of the goal.

Stortford launched themselves at S & S in the last few minutes and pulled one back with three minutes left, but there were no more scares, to make it seven wins from eight starts. This was a hard fought victory against a Stortford side that was physically strong and well organised, S & S's flair though was what differentiated the two sides & ultimately bagged them the merited points, maintaining their top of the table position.
