Win puts the boys at the top

The Men’s 1s emphatically returned to winning ways in a game they dominated almost from start to finish. Upminster started the game brightly, pressing hard, but S & S soon exerted themselves as their superior speed & fitness was made to tell. S & S soon took the lead with the hard working Jamie Hall’s shot come cross beating the Upminster keeper. One soon became two Chris Fell’s well placed drag flick from a Penalty corner finding its way home.

Upminster pulled one back to give them some hope, but this was soon quelled after Fell’s aerial from inside the S & S half fell perfectly for Alyn Meredith, who with a shimmy wrong footed the keeper & slotted the ball home. Just before half time Fell collected his second this time from a Penalty stroke.

S & S dominance continued in the second half, Stuart Robson made it five with a well placed shot from the top the D. Somewhat against the run of play though, Upminster soon after collected a messy second. The S & S sixth was the highlight of the game, young defender Jack Chiswell using speed & skill to burst through the Upminster ranks releasing the ball to Robson, his exquisite lay off falling to the on running Chiswell, who neatly then lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper to register his first senior goal.

This was a very strong team performance, which took S & S back to the top of Division 1. Special mention to Dom Wright who stepped up from the 2s and put in very competent performance in goal. Next week the Men’s 1s travel to Bishops Stortford 1s.
