The setting of a game on the main pitch at the Olympic Park was a great experience, but unfortunately it also coincided with the Mens 1s first defeat of the season.
East London started the game at full throttle as S & S took time to adjust to the much quicker "smurf" surface than they are used to. It was only the heroics of Pete Houghton the S & S keeper who kept East London from taking an early lead. Eventually the pressure told and East London scored. This stirred S & S into action and the pressure was now at the other end of the pitch. A neat penalty corner routine lead to S & S equalising with good drag flick finish from Chris Fell.
With honours even at half time S & S had every chance of getting a result, but errors at the back gifted East London two goals & despite a handful of chances at the other end S & S could not beat the East London keeper & they latter ran out 4-1 winners.
Next weekend Upminster 1s are the visitors to Fortress Sandy, where S & s hope to return to winning ways.
