against Wapping

3 objectives, 3 cards, 3 goals and 3 points.

S&S travelled to face a Wapping side that has been steadily moving up the league recently, so this was going to be a tough game on a somewhat bobbly pitch.
The side were given 3 objectives by coach Alyn Meredith which for the first half at least seemed to go in one ear and out of the other. S&S allowed Wapping far too much time on the ball and let them pick passes almost at will. It was, however the men in green and black who created the most clear cut opportunities and opened the scoring through Meredith after finishing at the second attempt. Wapping drew level just before the break and the half time message was easy. Concentrate on the 3 objectives given at the beginning of the game. Things didn’t quite go to plan as Meredith pick up a 10 minute yellow card for saying ‘oh dear’ to the umpire’s decision, Jack Chiswell also saw yellow after taking out a Wapping forward in the D. With S&S down to 9 and a Wapping penalty flick to come things weren’t looking great. Tony Payne in goal kept the scores level saving the flick. Flick saved and down to 9 seemed to galvanise the team who found more energy from somewhere and now Wapping had no time on the ball and started to make errors. Liam Stevens and Joe Purslow started to cause the Wapping backline problems with their stick skills and after a couple of corners were won, Meredith now back on the pitch converted again from a rebound. George Tipper, Tom Hollington and Chiswell continued to press in midfield, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
Meredith, after his 10 minute rest also seemed to have more energy as he robbed the Wapping full back on halfway and raced towards the circle, although before he could shoot/score, a sliding tackle from behind led to a stroke. Chris Fell calmly dispatched high above the keepers head and the contest was all but over.
S&S managed the game well until the final whistle and will be happy to take 3 points.
