keep the lads to a 3-3 draw
Men’s 1s 3 Upminster 3
After a recent dip in form and a couple of regulars unavailable S&S were keen to put in a good performance against an always competitive Upminster.
S&S started strong and if it wasn’t for another very impressive performance from the Upminster goalkeeper the game could of and possibly should of been over in the first 15 minutes. Several chances were created and not for some fine saves and passes not quite going to stick the score remained 0-0. Alyn Meredith then opened the scoring, after another save from the Upminster goal tender, the Shefford forward took the rebound and smashed the ball home. Some slack marking in the S&S back line quickly got the visitors level. A neat one-two from Meredith and Chris Fell saw the latter convert from close range. S&S were unable to hold the lead again and went into the break at 2-2!
The second half continued in much the same way as the first with S&S creating opportunities only to be thwarted by the GK! A rare break away saw Upminster take the lead with a fine cross and easy tap in on the back post. S&S have shown great character this season in never giving up and this was evident as 2 late penalty corners were correctly awarded and with the final whistle blown, Meredith scored the equaliser with the last play of the game.
An improved performance from recent weeks and hopefully this will be the spring board for the final run in.
Jamie Bellingham was deservedly award man of the match.
Special mention to both umpires who controlled the game very well.
