S & S effectively put an end to fourth placed East London's promotion push, with a well disciplined performance. The first half was notable more for a great deal of endeavour, as both sides struggled to break down each other’s defences, Jamie Bellingham and Jack Chiswell were in particular fine form at the back. S & S’s best chances in the first half both came from Penalty corners, the East London keeper making two fine saves from Stuart Robson drag flicks.
The second half started with an early goal for S & S. Robson & Alyn Meredith combining well to cut their way through the East London defence at pace, the hardworking Tom Pateman getting behind the defenders and from the through ball slotting it under the East London Keeper. S & S then took control of the game, forwards Pateman, Pete Reed, Lewis Bridger and Danny Price putting in a shift to unsettle the East London pattern of play.
With 10 minutes left S & S broke quickly, Meredith picking up the ball and finding the on running Bridger, who then smashed the ball through the East London keeper to seal the points. One fantastic save out of Keeper Pete Houghton was all East London could conjure up before scoring a consolation goal from the last hit of the game. This was one of the best performances of the season from S & S as they completely closed the opposition out.
With five games left it looks like a three horse race between S & S, Bourne Deeping and Wapping, for the two promotion places to East Premier B. This Saturday S & S entertain fifth placed Bishop Stortford.
