High winds and wet damp conditions

away at Saffron Walden

Today Ladies 4s showed their true team work away against Saffron Walden, despite loosing 4-2. They played in high winds, driving rain on top of a hill. Saffron Walden pressed hard right from the start, an early goal didn’t dampen the team spirit even if the rain did. The new players in the team worked hard. It was always going to be hard work to get back into the game, it wasn’t going to be easy.
Saffron Walden’s second followed despite some stout defending by Rosamond, Kim, Lorri and Esme. Big thank you to Justine for keeping goal.
A new mid field partnership seems to be developing well between Heidi Cook-Abbott and Clare Jeynes.

The team never stopped working and they were rewarded with a goal just before half time, by Caitlin kelly.
Half time came and went, still raining hard and high winds continued throughout the second half.
The second half saw the team under pressure from the get go, seeing S&S on the back foot defending the goal like warriors.
Saffron Walden’s third came from an amazing shot on goal
With all the short corners the team never gave up. Kim appeared to have used most parts of her body today to stop the ball including her teeth. The fourth goal followed soon after. The fighting fourths never gave up and well worked sequence of passes between Nat Baker, Lynn Higginson-Carter and Heidi, who nutmegged the defender to provide the pass to Caitlin for her second goal.
This was a well deserve goal.
The final few minutes saw the fourths camped in the Saffron Walden half with the some good attempts at goal.
The whole team were a credit to Shefford and Sandy Hockey club today. They never gave up and kept there heads high!
Yet again a long list of nominations for girly of the game, which went to the fully deserved Caitlin Kelly
