in well fought game

Shefford travelled to face 5th in the table Saffron Walden 1s. The ladies knew this would be a tough game and even tougher with it being so late in the day. The ladies were pleased to welcome back Felly into the team after injury and with a strong team talk from Captain Gudgin and they were ready for the challenge.
Saffron Walden came out fighting and had most of the possession in the first half. The defence of Martin, Grainger, Cullip, Gravell and Chiswell worked tirelessly. Saffron Walden were first to win a short corner and it didn’t take long for them to find the back board with a well drilled short corner routine. Grainger linked up well with Chiswell to find the midfield of Wood, Tipper and Irvine to win Sandy a short corner. Cullip with the injection to Irvine and Hart at the top of the D however they were unable to convert. The first half saw Martin make some excellent saves supported by Grainger clearing the ball from the goal line. A second shirt was won by Saffron Walden and they were quick to convert making it 2-0 at half time.

Different tactics planned at half time created a dominating second half by Shefford. Our first goal in the first few minutes led from a Saffron Walden hit out. Shefford forced them to play the ball around the back which caused a defensive error that Hart picked up and quickly slotted into the back of the goal. This goal gave Shefford the fire in their belly and they were soon to slow any of Saffron Walden’s attacks. It didn’t take long for Shefford’s second goal which was quickly forced down the right hand side with some wonderful weaving by player of the match Felly who struck the ball across the top of the D to find Saxon on the left. A sharp slap of the ball which created a spin into the bottom left and the scores were now level. Both teams were now fighting for the win however Shefford remained calm and composed with their interceptions. Saffron Walden won a short corner on the final whistle which saw a save on the line by Grainger and a quick clearance by Irvine. Shefford take a point with a 2-2 draw.

MOM close with Rachel Dawson (amazingly calm center back) 4 votes but storming in her first game back for the 1's Hannah Fell wins with 6 votes.
