We need to double our umpire pool to cover next season's matches - is there anyone else who'd be interested in doing the day course over the summer?
We'll provide training, support, incentives for the volunteers and are very keen to get some youngsters (min 14 years old), parents and supporters involved.
It makes sense to have umpires in all teams so we can cover each other's matches.

Why be an umpire?

  • It’s fun
  • You get to be involved in more matches on a Saturday and meet more members of our club
  • You don’t pay your match fees on a Saturday that you also umpire
  • You’ll be helping the club
  • You’ll keep fit - yes there is lots of running
  • If we don’t get more umpires we may get to the position where matches are postponed.

Here are some frequent worries that people have ...
  • 'I don’t know the rules’ - Learning to be an umpire encourages you to get the rules straight and learn how to apply them. You will know them by the time you finish the course.
  • 'I don’t feel confident’ - umpires develop with practice and we have some super existing umpires to mentor our new people as they step out in to the pitch.
  • ‘ I can’t do it every week’ - You won’t need to umpire every week. We ask that umpires cover a minimum of 5 matches per season.
  • ‘What if I get it wrong?’ - there are always 2 umpires on the pitch (the umpiring team) and we make sure that new umpire/less confident umpires have a very supportive colleague. They will help you.
